Backing Urgent Child Maintenance Service Reform

I attended Gingerbread’s parliamentary reception, hosted by Dr. Rupa Huq MP, to highlight serious flaws in the Child Maintenance Service (CMS). The event followed the release of Gingerbread’s Fix the CMS report, which revealed £682 million in unpaid maintenance since 2012 and systemic failures in enforcement, communication, and support for domestic abuse survivors.

I heard directly from single parents about the challenges they face and pledged to push for reform. I will continue working with parliamentary colleagues to ensure CMS reform is central to the Government’s Child Poverty Strategy, securing better support for families.
