Calling for Better Mental Health Support for Children in Kinship Care

I have called for greater mental health support for children in kinship care, highlighting that nearly one-third of these children have diagnosed or suspected social, emotional, or mental health needs. Speaking in Westminster Hall, I welcomed recent government support for kinship carers but stressed the need for comprehensive mental health services.

Kinship carers—family members stepping in to raise children who can’t live with their parents—do an incredible job. We must ensure these children and their carers aren’t left behind.

I remain committed to ensuring proper support services for children growing up in kinship care.
