I paid tribute in Parliament to Madge Tillsley MBE, a pioneering former councillor and Worcestershire’s first Black mayor. Arriving from Jamaica in the 1950s, Madge was a pillar of the Redditch community, dedicating her life to public service.
I described her as a trailblazer, a campaigning councillor, and a source of joy, highlighting her lasting impact. Leader of the House Lucy Powell joined me in offering condolences to her family and recognising her remarkable contributions.
Madge, affectionately known as "Auntie Madge," will be deeply missed, but her legacy will continue to inspire Redditch for generations.
