WELCOMING MIDDLE EAST CEASEFIRE PROGRESS

I welcome the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, marking a crucial step towards peace after 15 months of devastating conflict.

The Foreign Secretary's statement in the House of Commons highlighted the agreement's provisions for hostage releases and increased humanitarian aid to Gaza. While acknowledging that fighting continues pending full political approval, he emphasised the vital role of international support in recovery efforts.

I reaffirm my backing for the UK government's commitment to achieving a lasting two-state solution that ensures security and dignity for both Israelis and Palestinians.
